July 3, 2017Do you know how to plan a proper crane lifting job?
If you have some heavy objects to lift, you are probably asking about how to plan a proper crane lifting job? There are several steps needed to be carefully followed before you can safely move it.
Decide Who Is Responsible
The first thing that needs to be done is to find an individual who has the training and license to be able to make the move safe. They should have the technical knowledge and experience to make the move, as well as a license. If you cannot find such a person, it is a good idea to hire someone from a crane company.
Make a Site Visit
The selected individual should make a personal visit to the site where the object is located. This will reveal any difficulties that may be involved, such as possible objects in the way, the conditions of the ground for safety, and the best way to move the object. Any possible hazards or potential problems should also be noted.
Determine Weights Involved
The weight of the objects to be moved needs to be known. Any additional content that may not be visible also needs to be calculated so that the gross weight is understood. The weight all lifting equipment also needs to be known. This includes the rigging, hook, ball, and cable, and any other accessories. There should be no guesswork here, especially if the object to be moved is close to the maximum load weight of the crane.
The Position of the Crane
Where the crane is to be located to make the move needs to be examined. It should first be determined if the crane can be brought into the necessary position to move the object, and then determined whether or not the crane’s outriggers can be extended fully when in position. It must also be determined whether or not the crane can swing in a 360-degree circle without bumping into anything.
The ground on which the crane will sit when it moves the object needs to be determined for stability. Is it strong enough, and level enough, to safely support the crane and the object?
Choosing a Crane
A crane needs to be selected that is able to safely make the move. It should also be chosen on the basis of the safety equipment it has, as well as its dimensions and weight. Cranes also need to be verified that their inspection is up to date and that the equipment is working properly.
Lifting Equipment Needs to Be Selected
Everything that will be needed to safely lift the object needs to be chosen by the responsible individual. This includes the type and size of the slings, the shackles and eye bolts, etc., and they must fit together properly to ensure a safe move. All these accessories need to be examined to ensure there is no damage on them, or questionable strength.
Knowing how to plan a proper crane lifting job also means that the person responsible must choose the right people that will assist in the attaching of the slings and other equipment, as well as in the actual move. They must also know how to communicate with each other and work together to ensure a safe move.
